“The Statue of Liberty is popular for its height around the world. The statue of Vallabhbhai Patel will be twice the size of the Statue of the Liberty.” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2013.

Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel, born on 31stOctober 1875 in present Gujarat and passed away on 15thDecember 1950 at the age of 50, was a freedom fighter in 1947 during the British colonial rule. He was the Minister of Home Affairs during the government of Shree Jawaharlal Nehru ruled from the Independence date up to his demise.

Alike Mahatma Gandhi, he was a peaceable freedom fighter to free India from the British Raaj. He was successful in unifying the small princely states into an independent India. He became a well-known political and social leader after his achievement.

The Statue of Unity, which is dedicated to the Indian Independence Movement leader Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, is currently under construction in the Gujarat State in India. The statue will be 182 metres high when completed. The estimated cost of the statue is around $410 million and is built from 1,850 metric tons of bronze. The site of the statue will cover a surface area of 20,000 square metres. A man-made lake will be built around the statue which will cover an area of 12 km.

Modi made his dream project public in 2010 during his chief ministership of Gujarat. The Gujarat Government funded the construction with the financial support of the federal government and other contributions. The project devoted to a popular leaser also encompasses a museum and a research and entertainment center.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the statue on 31stOctober 2018.
